A tough review. The food was definitely just "ok", but I absolutely adored out waitress. She was so attentive and friendly, I want her to have five stars. Also, the inside isn't very nice, but it also is very appropriate for a beach town, so I'm not sure that's a negative? None of our food was bad... just ok. Honestly though, I probably would stop again. I kinda like funky little eclectic places in small towns.

If you're looking for great service and PIE! This is the spot! Tracy was awesome! They serve amazing homemade pies and have the "Best Clam Chowder on the Coast!" My Mom makes me stop everytime I'm in town to grab her some and bring it to her.

Who puts a pad of yellow butter on their clam chowder? Apparently this is a common practice in the Northeast, but a first-time for this West coast gal. Clam chowder sans butter is already enough to get butterflies in my arteries. The future husband and I persevered with our clam butterfabulous chowder to stay warm on one those bristly cold Oregon coast days. Dory Cove was a silver medal choice after Lincoln City's famous J's Fish and Chips had just sold out for the day. They told us to go to Dory's. See below. I am not a clam chowder expert, but this clam chowder is definitely not that great in spite of all the claims made. With an almost gluey base, the rubbery clams and ho-hum potato bits float in something that tastes flat and mass produced. Is that why there was butter on top? Word to the wise butter doesn't always make it better. Get to J's before 1pm just to be safe.

Service was good, we were seated right away, clam chowder was awesome, steamed clams were excellent, all the food around us looked very good. My husband and I split the clams and there was just enough to satisfy was until dinner. Will definitely come back again.

I will go in here at least once every time I visit Lincoln City. The food has always been fresh and tasty and the service great. I also really like the adjoined market here. They have multiple flavors of jerky and smoked fish choices, as well as crab and shrimp and wines. The jerky here is honestly among the very best I have eaten. I am always bummed out when I return to Portland and I have "nommed" my way through my entire jerky supply.

Came for dinner with friends while visiting in the area. Was a tad bit disappointed by where we were seated (in the back in chairs and tables after walking past several empty booths). The food was okay and the price was average. Service was decent. Not a bad place.

We dined as a group for breakfast. I enjoyed our server he was pretty attentive. I liked the waffle, although the potatoes were a little bland. A cheaper eat, nice for a hangover morning meal. Everyone seemed content. There's a jerky shop attached the the back which is nifty if that's your thing.

Went here for some dessert. I remembered they serve pies and assorted cakes. Ordered cheese cake which cost 8 $ strawberry was extra but I paid for topping. Serving was so outrageously small was more like a sample my wife and I shared. For the price and hassle for a topping felt ripped off. Wife and I drove down street to fathoms. ( inn at Spanish head ). And shared a much better dessert for less and a beautiful ocean view. Very disappointed in dory cove

Chowder was ok, too filling. Servers we're very friendly and dinner was great. Nice casual place to bring family.

I will definitely dine here every time I come to Lincoln City. Parking lot is pretty small, but the food is worth fighting for a spot!! We went here twice on a recent trip. Me and my boyfriend split the fried halibut. Comes with a cup of chowder and your choice of a side. We just ordered an extra bowl of chowder. The fries are like jojos, seasoned and pretty tasty. And the halibut...YUM!!! Super white, flaky fish, with just the right amount of breading. Not "fishy" tasting at all. So good. Second time we came here we ordered the same thing, but got the rotini pasta with alfredo sauce as the side. Nothing fancy, but it was good, but came out SCALDING hot!! Had to suck on some ice cubes to cool my mouth down! And the clam chowder...The BEST I've had on the coast. Tons of clams. And not just little bits of clams...big ones, and plenty of them! I could probably just eat a huge bowl of clam chowder for dinner and be full. This is a must try. Something for everyone on the menu.

Ehh, the food was just okay. They did handle our really large group well though (24).

Alot of people rave about Mo's and how good the Clam Chowder is but for me Dory Cove's Chowder is WAY better. I can honestly say that I get cravings for it and when I am at the beach I literally could eat it every day. It is truly the best. I unfortunately have not tried any other food because I always order the same thing. A bowl of Chowder and a slice of garlic bread. Mmmmmmm.....mmmmmm....good!!! And it's less crowded and quieter than Mo's too!!

    (4)
  • Brea M.

The food was overpriced and not that good. Mo's down 101 was better quality for the price.

In Lincoln City for my birthday we attempted to try Dory Cove Restaurant. We were a group of six, and understandably that can be difficult to seat at 11:30 on a Sunday. They had the space though, and immediately sat us in a six seater round table in the back. Apparently breakfast is only served until 11:30 which we didn't know until we were seated at 11:40 ,and when we asked we were brusquely told No. I tried to ask about something else and the waitress walked away in the middle of my sentence! It was so weird, and rude. We sat there for about 10 minutes, looking over the menu to see what we might want, but half the party was really wanting breakfast items. No one came to offer us water, or ask if we had any questions. We were also right next to a bucket of bleach? I am not sure, but the smell was so overwhelming, we decided to try birthday breakfast somewhere else. No one said a word to us when the six of us got up to leave, which was a bit surprising in today's economy. Eh. Food could be great---just couldn't get past the rude waitress and smelly bleach on my birthday. Pig N' Pancakes, just up the road was much more willing to greet us and feed us happily.

Grease pit! Made one of my friends sick. Feel like they needed to change the oil in the fryer.

I used to love this place and have gone here since its previous location but the last few times I have been there I have to finally admit its just not the same. The prices are too high, fish breading is soggy, and the clam chowder, which used to be the best, is just mediocre. The one bright point was the friendly servers we have had. I hope the owners read this review and change things for the better. For now i'll go elsewhere.

When a menu jokes about being slow, it's no joke.

This place is expensive. Good clam chowder (no slab of butter in mine). The clam/potato ratio was just right for me. I hate chowder that is all potato like a little place that starts with an M, ends in O....I won't name any names though. The restaurant itself is weird. Was it an old Italian restaurant? Saw some red, white and green stripes on the walls. Sat next to the "sandwich bar" which was awkward b/c the workers were there, refilling drinks, grabbing boxes, etc. Seems that would not be in the eating area. Anyways, I would go for a cup of chowder and maybe a salad, but it's not really worth anything more, in my opinion of course.

I grew up going to and loving Dory's Cove. It was always a favorite place for me and my family to go for dinner whenever we would stay in Lincoln City. My Dad and I driving up to find nothing but the concrete foundation and learning it had burned down was so, so disappointing. (Still sad when I think about it...*sniffle*) Last month my friend and I took a day trip to Lincoln City/Depoe Bay and I was very excited to see that Dory's Cove was back! Granted, not nearly as nice of a location as it used to be in, but at least it was back - beggars can't be choosers! We both went in very hungry, and both left very happy. While yes, a lot of the menu items are fried, health-conscious beware, the food tasted fresh and was served hot. My friend got clam chowder with her meal, which she said was delicious (I cannot say I've ever tried it - not much of a soup/stew/chowder fan), I opted for the salad. The greens seemed fresh and it came with sunflower seeds, peas, baby tomatoes, carrots and croutons. I chose the Italian vinaigrette and it wasn't the watery, 'slimy' consistency that other Yelpers have said it was. I can't really comment on the prices, because last time I was there before it burned down I was only 11 or 12, so I don't recall what the prices were back then. Also, the servers were friendly and attentive. Overall I enjoyed my time there and I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!

We had a great breakfast here. Excellent food choices, prepared well, and very tasty. Prices are reasonable. Staff is excellent! They are very polite, attentive, and friendly. Thanks for a great breakfast!

this place was very expensive for the quality of food they served, i ordered the steak and sauteed crab, when my plate arrived it looked like something from denny's. the steak was cooked unevenly and the crab was drowned in a bowl of melted butter. I actually thought I had gotten food poisoning later that evening. This place is not worth the money, its not a nice setting either, it feels like a dirty diner. I know people on the coast are really laid back but I just felt dirty eating at Dory Cove, the restaurant isnt anything special.

    (1)
  • Beth W.

The food is great, but it's SO expensive!! I had the steamed clams, but I've had many other items on the menu, and I've never had anything that I didn't like. The fish and chips are pretty classic.

  • Anne P.

Went here for breakfast this morning thinking it would be another mediocre greasy spoon. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Yes, the decor is cheesy and the prices seemed a little steep, but I was amazed at the fluffiness of my omelet and my husband had a breakfast quesadilla that was so huge he had to bring most of it back in a box. Along with my omelet, I also got two pancakes and potatoes that I had to take home as well. So I think the amount of food you get for the price is actually pretty good. It was all delicious. Waitstaff out on the floor all the time kept my coffee hot and our water glasses full. Overall it was good service and great food.

  • Brooklynn R.

Really good chowder. Friendly servers with excellent service. Sort of ducked in and out for some food before catching a movie, didn't have enough time to try a dessert but I'll definitely go back and do exactly that some time. Oh and they had those little chocolate mints. Love those.

  • Jerry G.

Whenever we are in town we eat here at least two times.Only thing is that they have smaller portions and raised the price. But that is the way business is.

    (5)
  • Scott W.

Five of us had the chowder, captain's platters and a fish and chips and a side of country fries. The platters are big enough for two and come with cod, clam strips, scallops and three butterfly shrimp. For the most part we were disappointed. It was your typical heavy breading and fairly bland The oysters and clam strips were a couple of notches above the landlocked frozen versions. But it says something when we all thought the country fries were the best thing we ordered. They seemed to be placed as the "Mo's that used to be" but failed. The service was short a server so even though the one server had a fun demeanor the service was bad. The fish and chip order was forgotten along with a side of chowder; refills were delayed.

My parents used to like to go to DC when It was at Roads End, so I thought I would try it for breakfast. Food was absolutely nothing special. There was a crab cake dish on the menu for breakfast which sounded great. I asked the waiter if it was fresh local crab and he responded no. I think it should be against the law for restaurants at the coast to service seafood that is not fresh and local, or at least tell you on the menu it is not. Tourists are people who are not savvy enough to ask are getting ripped off and having crappy seafood as their impression of oregon. Shame on you Dory Cove and others restaurants like you that don't support local fisherman.

Nice little restaurant. Good easy going atmosphere. The clam chowder was starchy. My fried oysters where overdone but the fries were very good. I would rate the food a C but we still enjoyed our visit.

I had a great dinner at Dory Cove while I was in Lincoln City on vacation. True, the decor is not great, but this is a little diner! I expect plastic tablecloths at places like this. The food was terrific! We had a large group and everything looked and tasted great-- fish and chips is a large portion (four pieces of fish!), the chicken dinner was great with steamed vegetables and little red potatoes, the salads are incredible and come in huge bowls with monster-sized red leaf lettuce. We had a lot of leftovers because of the big portions. I would definitely come here again.

  • Mark S.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It might be a tad expensive but the food can't be beat anywhere in Lincoln City. The food taste and quality kicks Mo's ass. It's a great place to share orders with others while having a beer or cocktail. The portions are generous!! *Don't go there cause I'm sick and tired of writing reviews and suddenly I can't get a table...

Want the old Dory Cove. Shame on Lincoln City for not allowing the Dory Cove to rebuild after the fire! It was a great location and complemented by the food. The current location is very near my house, but I would prefer to drive to Road's End if I could have the old place back. The food is still ok for standard beach fare, but not exceptional. Prices are ok, but not great.

    (2)
  • Melanie R.

The food was okay, but I don't think it deserves any hype, and I don't think it was worth the price tag. I had fish and chips, and like others have mentioned, the fish didn't taste particularly fresh. It was a bit rubbery, and nothing to write home about. I'm not a chowder fan, though others in our group confirmed that it's quite good.

What a disappointment , the sign said fresh crab so we went in . Ordered it got market price of 29 dollars . It came out in a dish mixed with sautéed vegis in some sauce . My wife asked the waitier if it was fresh crab and he said well usually but ,y wife asked is it frozen chunks ? He said well today it is . We were so disappointed that the sign said one thing and the serve another . We sent it back finished our chowder and we left . We won't be back

I have a long, positive history (mostly from my youth) with Dory Cove. It was disappointing to hear about its fire and loss. The last time I was there was when it was located at Road's End, just a few years ago. We went today for lunch, and had great service by Peter. My husband and I ordered grilled salmon burgers, and I had been expecting them to be fresh salmon grilled, not pressed burgers, but nonetheless they were good and the salad accompaniment was also very nice. Our teenaged daughters ordered cod'n'chips and out of the 4 pieces each they were served, we took home nearly 2 pieces each. The ambience and view of the old location is missing, but this is still a great place to come for non-greasy fish'n'chips, rich & bacon-y clam chowder, and a variety of grilled and fried seafood. The menu is plentiful.

  • Ronald B.

Used to be a fan, but gotta say since there are apparently new owners, things have changed, and not for the better. OK, so the clam chowder is still the best around (sorry Mo's fans, its the truth) but what they have done is raise the prices considerably by reducing the bowl size coupled with an increase in price as well. A double whammy. We did have the biggest crab cocktail I've ever seen, as well it should have been, for the $13.00 price tag, but it was a lot of crab. Unfortunately they only serve you a small, plastic cup (2 tablespoon perhaps?) of coctail sauce. Really cheap and not sufficient for the amount of crab. Second complaint is its a BIT@# turning left out of their parking lot anytime of day except maybe midnight. The old place before it burned down was much nicer, albeit smaller. Probably will return, just for the chowder. Yes, its that good, but still will be burned that they are jacking up the price and reducing the serving size too.

Yes, I long for the days of the old Dory Cove. There is no recreating that experience, so I want to judge this place on it's own merits. The food is back to being exceptional after moving to this location. There were a couple visits where I wondered if we would keep coming back. No more. The Fish 'n Chips was a flaky wonderment. The chowder, best on the coast. The service is back too. So friendly, attentive, and geniunly seemed to be enjoying the work. Unfortunately it is, as one person noted, like eating at Denny's. Just adding some booths would be a huge improvement. The Saturday night I went, with the room packed, it was conversation-ending loud for a time. So a different configuration would improve the experience. But you will not be disappointed if you are looking for some of the best chowder and seafood on the coast.

I don't know wht it is, but something crucial was lost in the transition from the Dory Cove to this new location. I think they are buying their fish fresh from SE Asia or something. And for another thing the prices are pretty ridiculous now. The Dory Cove is gone.

Had a hefty dinner order with a seemingly new staffer. Instead of allowing her to work with us and take her time, a man who we think is the manager stepped in to take over. She tried to tell him he was then getting the order wrong. He basically put her in her place and when we got our food and checked it in the car, it was incomplete. We went back in to show that we were missing three different meals for an order for 6 people and the man acted like we were making it up and argued that the order was correct. We had to show all the food and prove our order to him, which the nice lady tried to reconfirm. Instead he was an ass and made us feel like we were trying to scam him. No apology that the order was wrong or even a smile. When he gave us the missing food he then tried to argue with the lady server about how it was right and that this was all her error even though he barged in and took over the order. Our food was good but for $70.00 on takeout, you can take your attitude and deepfry it. We won't be back and that is sad - We have been enjoying Dory Cove for years but this creep leaves more than a fishy taste in my mouth and wed rather spend our money on a place that treats their customers and staff with respect. Ass.

On vacation in Lincoln City we wanted fresh seafood for lunch. In our party we had the following needs; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, diet fare, hungry teenager and a few "regulars" in the mix! We were served among other things fresh local Halibut, great salads, wonderful clam chowder, fish and chips and even a great burger. We too miss the old location but on our visit we didn't have one complaint. Short and sweet : Good, fresh seafood, accommodating, we left very happy!

I had grilled Cod. It was wonderful. Very thick and moist. I got it with a green salad that had a lot of different veggies on it. Our server was the manager who I was told is in the process on buying the business. He was really classy. I would eat there again. PS-I saw that they do breakfast, which was at a good price.

I grew up going to Dory Cove. My family visited the beach a lot and this is the ONLY place we ever ate dinner. Forget Lil' Sambos or Pixie Kitchen (ok, maybe I got to go there once or twice!), my mom wanted Dory Cove. And what mom wanted, mom got. So, on a recent trip, I was delighted to discover Dory Cove back in business since a fire destroyed it a few years ago. Sadly, it is no longer located in Road's End, which was a great place to play on the beach while waiting the 45-minutes for a seat. It's new location lacks charm---Hwy. 101, attached to a Smokehouse in mid-Lincoln City. However, the food was just as good as I remember. I had the cod fish-n-chips, which was delicious. The chowder was also good, not quite as good as I remember, but still darn good. Sadly, I was too full for dessert---they sell deep dish cobblers... Cost was reasonable--approx $13 for my dinner. Service was decent too. Happy that Dory Cove is back in business!

For what it was, it was good. The fish was breaded and fried and hot and crispy, but I've had better at Elmer's in Hillsboro. My favorite things were the fries, they have that crunchy coating that tastes so good, and the tempura veggies - those were outstanding! Hubby got oysters and they appeared to be frozen & flash fried - they were not fresh. They were good, just not fresh. Probably already breaded and just tossed frozen into the oil. Not the best, but not the worst. I don't understand the references to Captain Ron by other people here - it is still called Dory Cove. But there is another restaurant with a similar name - the very same words Dory Cove are in it's title - but this is not that place, or is it? Anyway, the chowder was just okay. I got a piece of lemon sour cream pie to go, and that was REALLY good. And then the next day, I went to the little smoked fish store next door, and they have awesome jerky. I'll review them separately. To sum up - if you want fried fish, you might find it better somewhere else. Still it's a cute little hole-in-the-wall on the coast, and the staff were very friendly. It might deserve a look when you are super hungry on the coast. Prices were high, but of course fish is always a bit steep. A huge plate of the tempura veggies was only 5.95 - that was a great deal. I took them with me when we left.

When you're spending a day at the coast, no trip is complete without a hot bowl of fresh clam chowder. My parents were totally enamored with Dory Cove, and in its ashy wake came Captain Ron's, which apparently has the same menu as its forebear, being started by Dory's chef. Granted, the chowder WAS good, and a bowl of it would be plenty for a meal. And the menu had lots of classic dishes like fish-and-chips (my sister and I split this, along with a cup of chowder, and we were fine, but I probably wouldn't do it for dinner), clams, and various other fishies. My mom seemed happy with her salad. So what we know right now: Solid food. It's true. That said--and maybe this is the cheap bitch in me--I really don't think that this place is worth the price they charge. We're talking $15 for cod fish-and-chips, that I could get here in town for $9 (and would taste the same, too, freshness and all). Is a cup of chowder worth $4? We'll leave it up to you, but I was horrified when I saw that most of the meals were $17+. If this were, say, a nice restaurant, I might not have batted one lash, but Captain Ron's goes more for the cafeteria feel of a greasy spoon. We're talking booth seats with plexiglass tops, dusty windows with corny wooden sea-inspired sculptures (and even a few Troll dolls mixed in). Plastic Coke-labeled cups for water. It felt more like a fast-food joint (almost like a Mike's Drive In) than an oceanside seafood restaurant. But Captain Ron also has steadfast followers, like my parents, who could give a darn about feel and decor. While I like the idea, if I find myself back in Lincoln City around lunch time, I don't think I would go out of my way to get their food. Sorry!

Captain Ron will always be Dory Cove. When someone in my family wants to go there we say, "Let's go to the new Dory Cove". So there you have it. The new location is dreadful compared to the previous, ocean view-happy one, but I don't go to Ron's Cove for the view. I go for the chowder. I am a full on chowder snob, and it is Dory Cove's fault, after enduring chowder bliss at their hands for many a year. When I moved out of state, sure, I dallied with other chowders. What can I say? I'm weak. And with but one or two exceptions, no one has come close to approaching Ron-cum-Dory's chowder excellence. As for the rest of the menu, I would generally give it 4 stars, with a couple of 3s. Some of the items are a little pricey; the last time I visited, I had some kind of shrimp-scallop pasta dish that made me almost as swoony as the chowder. So moist! So tasting of the sea! Most dishes offer more than enough food to split with someone, which helps with the scrilla. And so it is that Captain Ron claims a little more of me heart, and sends me in search of a late-night snack. Excuse me.

Dory Cove was a big disappointment. I had heard about the long history of this place, and had high hopes for the experience. I just don't understand why people think this place is great. The menu is almost entirely FRIED seafood. This kind of food can be found at any restaurant with a fryer in the kitchen and a freezer. While staying at the coast I expect more fresh seafood options. I ordered a crab and shrimp salad. The lettuce looked like it came from a bag. Romaine lettuce with matchstick carrots and a little raddicio. The crab was dry, and the shrimp was OK. Not impressed with a bagged salad for $13. I will not be going back to this place. There are so many options in Lincoln City that are WAY better in taste, nutrition, and experience.

Good fish and chips with a started of chowder. Been here twice and know that they were pretty consistent both times. Note: that both times we came outside of the rush hour/busy time and the service was great. We were seated quickly, water set and our order was taken. Staff was friendly and checked in with us frequently. Some pieces of the fish were perfectly fried, but I had a couple that were a little 'darker' than the others and they were dry. Not the end of the world and I will definitely be visiting them again soon.

Had burgers and onion rings for lunch. So. Much. Food! Pretty basic burger. Delicious crispy fries and onion rings. Waitress was really nice and did a good job. It is a little overpriced for basic food.

About what you'd expect. Slightly over cooked, simple presentations of seafood, and a large fry menu. We had the grilled Halibut, the grilled cod, the halibut and chips and a garden burger. Old style presentation in a restaurant busy with the tourist trade. You won't go right or wrong here, but if you don't imagine this is anything more than the fry house it is, you won't really be disappointed either.

I really have mixed feelings about the Dory Cove, overall, it's not what it used to be. We happened to ask where their seafood comes from, and no one really knew the answer other than they get it from a large distributor, frozen, from who knows where all over the world. Seriously, they're right smack on the pristine Oregon coast and the Dory Cove is going for cheap over good, but still charging like it's good. The inside of their present location is bland, and large, as compared to their old location. I think that there is a partial ocean view from the back room. Our waiter was very nice and acceptably attentive. Everything on their dinner menu was at least $13.95 and went up from there. Most of their seafood offerings were deep fried, and they have a few steak and chicken options as well. They have soups and salads, too, and a full lunch menu. But I'll stick to dinner here. We settled on fresh broiled salmon ($15.95), Fried Clamstrips ($13.95) and fried oysters ($15.95). Each was accompanied by choice of two sides. The garden salad was good, and as I remember it with sliced white mushrooms, little green peas, cherry tomatoes, and sunflower seeds. One person in our group got the coleslaw, which was good, too. We all got loaded baked potatoes that were cooked correctly and tasted acceptable with a shake of salt and pepper. Each meal included a Texas-toast style garlic Parmesan bread as well. We all thought our meals were Ok. There was a comment that the oysters lacked flavor other than fried flavor. The clam strips also tasted like fried texture and not very clammy. The salmon was probably the best of the bunch, broiled, and not terribly overcooked. Afterward we had peanut butter chocolate cream pie and others in our group had the sour cream lemon pie. Both were really good and are made locally by the same woman that's been making them for the Dory Cove for years. TWO STARS because they have no idea where their seafood comes from (answer: all over the world, frozen, because it's cheap for them to buy), and two stars because they charge too much for their not even close to local seafood that tastes average at best.

The Oregon Coast's best clam chowder, period. The chowder is creamy, thick, has a nice volume of clam and is full of flavor. Staff is friendly and efficient. A stop on the coast for me just about every time I'm out here.

BIGGEST and best crab salad I have EVER had! Crab and shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, clam strips, fish and chips were delicious. No line and Service was fabulous! Overall, a WAY better experience than Moe's!!!!----We'll be back for sure!

Its unfortunate that I wasn't impressed, possibly because I had high expectations being a fan of their original incarnation at the North end of Lincoln City before it burned down. Even with nostalgic feelings about the old Dory, I really had a hard time enjoying so-so, greasy fish & chips and other fried stuff. Prices were OK but I really left feeling underwhelmed. Maybe if you never knew the old Dory Cove it would be a better experience for you.

I hate having to write a bad review when I was expecting the opposite. My wife and I recently stopped by for lunch on our way home from a weekend trip. My brother has been raving for a long time about how great the food is, especially the clam chowder. The chowder is good, very good, but not quite exceptional. That's the good part, now for the rest. My wife's fish and chips was rubbery. The fries weren't too bad, but for the price and location you expect fish to be pretty good. I could have gotten a better burger at Burger King for a quarter the price. Maybe this was just an off day for the cook? Service was friendly, but not very engaged. All in all, I expected a lot more for a $30+ lunch.

Prices are about average for the coast. Service was excellent. Food was only average. Clam strips were great, but my saute combo was overcooked, undersalted, and tough. Waitress ordered replacement, and said a new cook had come on. New batch was much better. Overall, not as good as they were at the old location.

Do yourself a favor, just keep driving. I ordered the Shrimp salad, it was huge, complete with a schload of canned bay shrimp on top. The lettuce was watery, and the "vinaigrette" more resembled pink mucous than any type of salad dressing I've ever seen. I sent it back and asked for Ranch, which was much the same consistency, but with Ranch, that's slightly more acceptable. My boyfriend had a cup of chowder, well, he had a spoonful of chowder and didn't touch another bite. All that would have been sort of okay, if we'd had a spectacular view of the ocean, however we did not. The atmosphere was a lot like eating in a Denny's sans any windows. The staff was very friendly, and who knows maybe the other menu items are better. We won't be going back, in fact, I don't think my boyfriend will ever let me live down our trip to Dory Cove.

Captain Ron's is a great place to stop. It used to be called Dory Cove but changed owners. The chowder is WAY better than Mo's. We stop here for lunch whenever we drive from Lincoln City to Depoe Bay. Nothing fancy, just good food for a low price in a family atmosphere. The seafood sandwich is my favorite, but fish & chips is also devine. Next door is a seafood market where you can buy crabs, jerky, taffy, soda.

8 ladies. Yummmmmmmm.....Wait staff very friendly and adoptable. Clam chowder absolutely beat mo's. Tempura veggies and onion rings wonderful. Quick, tasty and scasual. Thanks Dory Cove

Food was bland. Chowder was like white pasty goo. The chowder had lots of clams but the white sauce had no flavor. In fact, it seemed to be the same as the sauce they used on the salmon pasta. My dining partner had fried scallops, and again, just not very tasty. Good food in the past, but not anymore. This will be our last visit, just wish we had avoided it this time.

We decided on this place due to the reviews that I had seen and recommendations from my coworkers. I wished I had checked here first for recommendations as it seems that there are quite a few others that felt the same as I about Dory Cove. I was really looking forward to a good bucket of steamer clams. What I got was a $20 bowl of brown "soup" with soggy clams covered in garlic, red peppers and mushrooms, when the menu simply stated "Steamer Clams". Maybe I have been away from the coast for too long, but this was nothing like I remember steamer clams. I asked the waiter about it and he seemed empathetic and offered to remake it for me. It came back to the table fairly promptly, though still steaming in the brown soup and after digging through a few clams found more of the mushrooms and peppers that the waiter had told me that it would be prepared without. It seemed like they just took it back and picked off what I didn't want to try and placate me. I have to wonder if what I hadn't eaten was thrown out or just put back in the pot and served to the next unfortunate customer. My Boyfriends fish was rubbery, the chowder was okay, but Elmer's is just as good. The raspberry vinaigrette for my salad was thick like jelly as was the ranch they served with the fries. There was no management on at the time but they did comp my meal. So I left hungry and angry. Patrons beware of Dory Cove.

After trying clam chowder all along the coast this place has it in the bag! It was so good that the next day we got clam chowder to go as we left town because it was so dang good. Our entrees were the crab cakes and the surf and turf special. Crab cakes were good. Surf and turf tasted good but really small portions. We both chose the stuffed baked potato. Small but tasted great. Definitely recommend this place. Clean, staff was friendly, and they have a nice little shop adjoining the restaurant. We got their original jerky there and it was amazing.

Our first stop on the Oregon coast for lunch and we were excited because the reviews here were so good. We couldn't wait to try their amazing clam chowder! However, it was kind of bland. I thought to myself, "if this is the best clam chowder on the coast, we're in trouble!". The crab cakes were awesome, though. And we loved the razor clams. I asked our server how much of what we ate was sourced locally and she responded "I don't know, it just comes on our delivery truck". What? How disappointing! The ocean is...right there! I understand that not everything will be available all the time, but it seems like something should have been locally sourced? Anyway, the food was ok, but the service was great. We never went without and she was very friendly and accommodating.

Eaten here twice in the past couple of years, and both times got sandwiches. Most recent trip I got a BLT and BF got a Club. Both were good (hard to screw up a BLT or CLUB), as were the fries. Service was friendly, and sandwiches arrived fairly quickly. Overall a solid choice for lunch (and I'm sure dinner), and we'll probably be back during our next trip to Lincoln City. *Also plenty of parking, so don't let the roadside construction deter you.

When you walk in this place seems nice and cozy with booths. Then the take you into a back room that has hard chairs like it is the "employees" break room. (Not sure why we were escorted to the back when the front only had one booth occupied) Ordered chowder and it was okay. Very salty! Did not need to add any on our own at all. When asked about the twice baked potatoes and asked for no chives we found out they receive them pre- made frozen so we could not change them. (Not exactly home made...) requested red potatoes due to food sensitivity issues to onions. And there were onions mixed with the red potatoes even though we were told there weren't. :( The food was okay but not worth the price. Plus my guess is it is all pre-made by Sysco. People and servers were attentive and very nice.

Soup, service, satisfied. 40+ year recipe for the clam chowder, which was SO GOOD. Not too heavy and no sand. The fish and chips were nicely cooked and not over breaded. The servers were so friendly - everyone was smiling and working hard. Good job guys! We will be back.

Our first time visiting Oregon Coast and pretty excited to try seafood ( Fish & Chips , Clam Chowder soup) . The restaurant was recommended by one of the locals. It was totally a disappointment! Besides being so overpriced, the fish and the crab cake does not taste fresh. I was given a garden salad that the leaves are wilted and brownish color. The clam chowder was just okay and missing the taste. I would not recommend this place at all.

A little spendy but worth it! Staff helpful and friendly. parking a little tough for large vehicles. Still worth it! I went back twice during our 5 day stay in Lincoln City. Crab cakes awesome, desserts Da' Bomb and the chowder very good.

We stay in a house around the corner quite often but for some reason have never stopped in until today. Boy are we sorry! 10 years of not eating here, what a bummer! Clam chowder was probably the BEST we have ever had. We also ordered the fish taco's, fish and chips, popcorn shrimp and some kids meals. We were not dissapointed in a single bite. Everything was absolutely delicous and the staff was very nice.

Great service and even better food! Their shrimp cocktail appetizer is a meal in and of itself, and the clam chowder is excellent - better than that *other* restaurant in Lincoln City. We had the bread pudding with Jack Daniels caramel sauce as well this time, and it was incredible! It was the perfect density and texture (which a lot of places don't get right, in my experience) and the portion size was good for two people to share. This restaurant is a favorite with my family, and a must for any visit to the Central Oregon Coast.

What a treasure cove! We stopped because of other yelp reviews and loved this place. Great breakfast options with generous portions. The food was well prepared and served hot. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We almost missed it but google and Yelp maps took us right to the location.

While I have heard of the legendary Dory Cove from years prior, we did not get the same experience. My fiance and I are local to Depoe Bay. We thought the Dory Cove would be an amazing place to celebrate my fiance's promotion. However, everything we expected was far from what we actually received. First off, it was busy that night. Since my fiance is in the restaurant industry, this does not deter us very easily. However, being seated in the middle of the dining room along with another couple, whom we have never met before, at a table that was designed for a larger party was the first red flag that we should have left. They advertise fresh crab, which is what my fiance and I were both wanting to order, they had one serving left. Not only was the crab not in the shell(indicative of fresh crab), but it was also the smallest portion of crab I had ever seen. It had to have come from a can. My fiance's hush puppies tasted freezer burnt, and much of the food was bland and flavorless. It seemed as if everything that was served to us was frozen at one point or another. Not only was our food horrible, but our service was terrible as well. They are terribly understaffed. I felt awful for our server who seemed to be responsible for much of the restaurant. Because our server was so swamped, we were virtually ignored for a drink refill, and sat for a while awaiting our check which never came. We eventually gave up and went to the front of the restaurant to pay our bill. Needless to say, we will never return and tell all our guests and visitors to avoid this place at all costs. I suggest you do the same.

Still our favorite place in the coast for clam chowder. Wife and I are in Licoln City for our anniversary and always have to hit Dory Cove for Chowder. This trip was no different and we decided on the BIG bowl of chowder with a side of garlic bread. The bowl was more than enough for how hungry we were and the bread was good too. The service was good as the waiter was a little long getting back to ys but had our soupbout right away after we ordered. We mentioned it was our anniversary and they brought us a piece of peanut butter and chocolate pie that was AWESOME. We have tried chowder up and down the coast and Dory Cove still is the best to us.

3 kids, 4 adults. The service was slow and very impersonal. The clam chowder is definitely NOT the best on the west coast. The side salad was wilted and they charged an additional $1.25 for the same bread they threw on my 7 year olds popcorn shrimp. The kids popcorn shrimp was a hit and the fries are amazing. The club sandwich took 30 minutes. On top of the above mentioned, the decor and atmosphere is dark and depressing. The outside looks welcoming until you get inside. The only reason I have 2 stars was for the popcorn shrimp and fries. I will not go again.

My daughter expressed at bedtime that she wanted a salmon omelet for breakfast. So her adoring grandmother ( four sons one very spoiled granddaughter) got up at the crack of dawn ( this after stupidly staying up till after one am arguing religion and politics with her oldest/ my hubby)and called every restaurant in town to find her one. That is love for ya. Now, princess' prototype salmon omelet is in Wheeler at Wanda's Cafe, a very different kettle o' fish than Dory Cove. Dory's has salmon, cheddar, mushrooms, onions, and sour cream. She requested sour cream and salmon only. Wanda's, fyi, has dilled cream cheese and salmon. Period. And the dilled cream cheese is a little blobnon top. This morning it came with cheddar. She picked at it. Hubby told her to cope and eat the good parts. When our server came near the end of breakfast and hubby told him about the cheese, the server grimaced, whisked away the plate and quickly returned with a second omelet. Salmon and sour cream only. Um awesome!that is good service. The rest of our breakfasts ranged from ok to good. . My egg whites were not completely cooked and my crab cakes were a tad overdone, there was some pretty dark toast, a waffle was good, salmon eggs bennie was good. I overheard other tables complaining about their food. Maybe the kitchen was having some bumps today. Its not awesome- a bit uneven and run down- but that server was great to my kid. I bet we return.

I ordered a Rueben sandwich and after waiting 20 minutes, I received a reuben that had bits of meat down the center and the two breads touched each other. I had to open it to make sure there was anything in it. I sent that $13 "sandwich" back. What a waste of time. The one star is for the fact they had a nice hostess.

We went to Dory Cove today and had stellar service by Rebecca! The cooks started lunch early for us when we asked so we could enjoy the Fish & Chips and Crab Cakes. The clam chowder was simply amazing...the best ever! A huge shout out to Rebecca and the cooks for a great experience. My first visit after a recommendation from my best friend! A must stop now going to Lincoln City!!!!

Decided to try a new place when I visited for a little vacation. I won't be coming back here, but I can see why people would eat here. After we were seated it took several minutes for a server to greet us. By the time we were greeted we were entertaining the idea of leaving and eating elsewhere. That being said our server was very nice. I ordered the clam chowder. It was very tasty and very filling. I should have just ordered the soup, but I also ordered the fish and chips. When they brought my entree my jaw dropped. It was the biggest mound of fried food that I have ever been given anywhere. Definitely should have shared it. The fish was good, the breading was pretty good. The fries were unremarkable. I am not sure what the texas toast was supposed to bring to the table, but I didn't find it worth eating. It was too much food and too much grease. And I only say too much because fish and chips are not a prime leftover food. I needed a nap afterwards. My SO ordered crab cakes. He normally obsesses over them and can't leave a beach vacation without trying them. It was the first time that I have seen him not finish his crab cakes. He said they were just ok. If you are a really hearty eater and can handle that amount of fried, then this place is for you as far as fish and chips go.

I don't get why this place has a low rating. It was great. We went to Nelscott Cafe on a Tues and apparently they're closed during the week? I was surprised there wasn't a sign with their hours. Then went to Pacific Grind. They had a great coffee menu, but not a full breakfast and you order at the counter. The guy working there suggested this place. I was reluctant due to the review, but was pleasantly surprised. Everything was amazingly fresh and delicious. The waitress was really helpful with accurately describing what they had. We all were stuffed. The atmosphere was clean and the food came fast.

Not only was the seafood and chowder very tasty, the filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. I would also like to take a moment to mention the AMAZING customer service from the wait staff - very accommodating, efficient and personable!

It's ok not the best recipe for clam chowder, but I also think M oes is overrated as well. Service was fine The deep dish pie was more like cobbler and it sucked and wasn't worth $6 Idk the place lacks pizzazz I guess....just ok. You won't get sick. It's clean.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! This was the worst seafood we have ever had. Over cooked and very salty. The food was not fresh, had been frozen so long it was freezer burnt. It was so bad we didn't eat much , and went somewhere else.

Came here for my annual trip to the beach, still outstanding. Service is great, and the food always hits the spot. The clam chowder is still one of the best around. Thanks again Dory Cove!

Lets start with the highlight; the clam chouder, awesome! We almost bought a togo container as we were leaving. The rest of the food was good and fresh, but to much of the menu is fried. The service was good, our waiter was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was clean and comfortable, very relaxed. The new location isn't so great, we really enjoyed visiting when they were located at Road's End. Prices are reasonable

Our server, Danny, was very attentive, fast, efficient and friendly! The food was good but the highlight was my husbands King omelette with their in-house smoked wild salmon! I'm not generally a fan of omelettes or smoked salmon in a meal (I like it by itself) but this omelette blew me away! We will definitely be back!

Ambiance: not very good. While we would have eaten in the front room gladly, they put us in the back room because of the highway-widening construction in front of the restaurant. Unfortunately, their back room is a bit cold and not very decorated. IIt's too bad, because even with a bit of construction noise out front, the main room is much better. Service: Very friendly, very accurate, and just attentive enough. I never felt intruded upon, and we always had what we needed. Food: While no 5-star fish and chips, our meals were much better than expected. Lots of food, very nice salad and cole slaw, and the fish and chips lived up to my expectations for the place. Summary: After a bit of conversation with the co-business, it's clear that the Dory Cove is going through a bit of a change and is starting to try hard to bring it up to its former reputation. They are on the right track.

I had eaten at the old restaurant at Road's End years ago, and was impressed. Back to Lincoln City after many years, and of course had to eat there again. The food was OK, nothing special. The water, served in plastic cups, tasted like plastic. The restaurant blamed it on the city water; but nowhere else in town did I experience the same taste to the water! Definitely unimpressed this time around.

Server very attentive. Food arrived in under 10 minutes. Not too busy this time of year but not empty. Both had omelets and they were really stuffed with fillings. I'd like to have one more egg to contain the filling but the ham was high quality. Wife said hers was a little greasy but frankly that's the way I like it. We would return.

Pricey, but good food. Wasn't too busy when I went, but the place is small so I can see it getting cramped on a busy day. Staff was polite and courteous. I got calamari, clam strips, and clam chowder. All very yummy. I would go here again.

We enjoyed our brunch here. The chicken fried steak was hearty and flavorful. The service was excellent. Our waiter was super nice and helpful. And the price was very reasonable. Our bill averaged out to around $9 per person.

The is your typical Fry Joint. Half there menu is various seafood deep fried. It is reasonable in food quality, very generous in portion, but is over-priced. I had the halibut and clam strips which were comparable to what you'd buy at Costco. Their Chowder was better than Mo's, so that was nice. One high note was the Seafood Casserole which was pretty good. Overall, though, you should go elsewhere because the food here isn't unique.

Waffles were sour and undercooked, I'm guessing bad batter. Sausage was undercooked. Service was good but they undercooked our food twice. Probably won't go back.

Sigh. Maybe my expectations were too high. For four of us, a $75+tip meal should be at least what I can make myself. This one was not. My child's sandwich was of ingredients I can buy at Wal-Mart. My other child's side of rotini pasta was topped with a white sauce out of a jar. The chocolate pie for dessert was fine. The cheesecake was out of a box. And, what they call peach pie was really peach cobbler. I equate this place to Sheri's.

Tonight was my first experience at Dory Cove. I had never been here before, even before the fire at the old location. I was looking for something with pasta.. my waitress suggested the chicken pasta..while I waited for it, I had the broccoli soup - which was GREAT!! .. unfortunately when the pasta and chicken got out, the chicken was.. meh, but the pasta was horrible!! I only took two or three bites of it, then sent it back because it was so bad. The waitress and owner were gracious enough to take that off my bill and I had another cup of soup. I wouldn't let my experience be a good basis for this restaurant, though I would like to see them improve the pasta .. ;) .. I cannot eat seafood and this restaurant is mainly seafood based. Give it a try and see how it is for you? I will note it was tiny. I felt cramped and a little claustrophobic in there.
